Treatment for Dry and Chapped Lips

If you suffer from uncomfortable dry and chapped lips you might want to consider using lip balm that is packed in a jar instead of the usual tube, like ChapStick. You will find it more moisturizing. To make a lip balm that is solid enough to stand in the convenient-to-use tube, manufacturers use a high percentage of wax. Unfortunately, more wax in the product means less moisturizing agents. Lip balm in a jar, on the other hand, doesn’t need to be very solid so it has a high concentration of lubricating agents and healing oils. In the list below are some of my favorite jarred lip balms. All of them are based on the nourishing and moisturizing Shea butter mixed with other ingredients such as natural oils and honey.

Clarins Extra-Firming Lip & Contour Balm

Contains smoothing raspberry seed oil and Shea butter. In my opinion this is the most hydrating lip balm. It's not cheap, but a little goes a long way. 0.5oz/15ml, $45.

Botanicus Shea Lip Balm

Shea butter and natural oils. Botanicus offers this lip balm in four versions: Lemon & Lime, Iced Mint, Orange & Ginger, and Propolis & Honey. The Propolis & Honey lip balm leaves white residue on the lips. These lip balms are also great as a cuticle cream. 0.5oz/15ml, $20.

Eminence Citrus Lip Balm

Shea butter, sunflower seed oil, and lemon balm. The lemon essential oil might be irritating to some. I recommend you try this product in spas where Eminence products are being sold before buying. 0.27oz/8ml, $24.

Nuxe Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm RĂªve de Miel

Shea butter, natural oils, vitamin E, and honey. This lip balm contains wax and I find it to be the least hydrating lip balm in this list. Yet, it's a good product. 0.5oz/15ml, $15.
